About

The founder, in his own words.

What Would D.D. Do? exists to put the founder of chiropractic's own words in front of every chiropractor, free.

Why this exists

D.D. Palmer founded chiropractic in 1895 and spent the rest of his life writing down its science, its art and its philosophy. Most of what he published sits in scans few chiropractors ever open. This is one home for all 33 writings we hold: ask him anything, check the words behind every answer, and read the originals free.

How the answers work

Ask D.D. searches 813,679 words of his books and the journals he edited, 1904 to 1914, for the passages closest to your question, then answers as D.D., using only his own words. His pages also printed other people: letters, testimonials, newspaper clippings, students, his son B.J. Those words are cut out before the answer is written, and every quotation is checked word for word against what he printed. If his writings do not address your question, he says so rather than invent an answer.

The sources

His 1910 Text-Book and 1914 book, his pamphlet on the moral and religious duty of a chiropractor, the sections of the 1906 Science of Chiropractic that are his, The Chiropractor (1904 to 1906) and The Chiropractor Adjuster (1908 to 1910). The books are read from Internet Archive scans. The journals are read from the scans of the Palmer College of Chiropractic Archives, credited on every page that uses them. The text comes from the scans by machine reading (OCR), cleaned only by rule, never rewritten; each writing shows how clean its text is.

What it is not

This is philosophy and practice guidance from the founder’s own writings, not medical or clinical advice. Chiropractic, as he taught it, is a science of the cause of disease, not a remedy for pain.

Start with a question

Ask what he meant by Innate, what tone is, or what he would tell a new chiropractor.
